Career as an Inspector – Who Said the Future is Not for Inspectors!
As the name suggests, the people into inspection and testing check the quality of the products manufactured as well as that of raw materials. All goods and products manufactured should be of high quality. A company’s main aim is to deliver high quality goods or products to the customer. This increases customer satisfaction and thereby the market shares of the company.
Every company has its own standards. They should also implement government rules in maintaining quality. This is where the inspectors and testers come into picture. Companies hire them to maintain and improve the quality. These people must know the company standards and federal rules to which company must abide.
Job Profile of the Inspectors and the Testers
Inspectors and testers are employed in the various fields like automobile industry, electronics industry, clothing industry, food processing industry, textiles, and leather goods etc. Their duties vary depending on the type of industry they are working in. However, the main motto of the Inspectors is to test the quality of products.
Inspectors must work in the real world after the training. Depending on the type of goods they are testing, they use different methods. For example in food processing industry, they may need to taste curry, and check the acid content in it. In automobile industry, they have to check the various parts that are manufactured in the unit, using several gadgets.
Tester and Inspector should maintain details about the quality of the products, number of products tested, whether they are meeting the standards. They have to interact with the production manager to discuss about the products defaults, and should suggest steps to improve the quality. Everything must be recorded in a log book: reports must be prepared about defected goods, and overall quality. Hence it is better to use software that is capable of preparing reports.
Educational Requirements and Future
For the post of Inspector, you don’t need a doctorate. A high school diploma with on job training is enough. You can make sure that you get the job by learning how to operate the computers and prepare reports. You should also take up a project like a survey etc, for some pay or even free for a few days. Get experience certificates from them describing your dedication towards work. And above all, do not forget to mention all this in your CV under different headlines.
Companies are using advanced technology, and automation process to get things done at a faster pace. This factor is decreasing the demand for the job. Some companies are including testing process in the production process. Hence requirement for the testers has decreased considerably.
On the other hand, there are companies that do not use automated machines as they cannot afford them. Some tasks cannot be fully completed automatically. This means there is still some scope for the Inspectors. A machine cannot logically think and experiment to produce better quality machine. It can only be a part of it, helping the inspector in creating better quality. So whoever says that there is no future in the job as Inspector, tell him that the day when computers and robots can think and act on their own is still very far. We won’t anyways survive till then! So there is no fear of layoffs.
