I recently purchased the LG BD570 from Best Buy. 4 days later I took it back and got the Panasonic DMP-BD85. This is why:
1) The internal LAN connection was very unstable. Most of the time it failed to recognize ANY networks, not even the one from my wireless router in the next room. I spent $110 for someone to help with my router, only to find out it wasn’t the problem. The network was recognized everywhere but by the LG player.
2) LG support is un-trained, condescending and does not care if your problem is solved. I spent more than an hour on the phone with 2 different people, the first of which I hung up on because his English was so bad. Their only solution was to repeatedly reset the player.
I was talked into this by the salesperson, who said it had more features for the same price as the Panasonic I originally intended to buy. My research had shown Panasonic got much better reviews than LG. Next time, I will not be talked into something inferior.
The Panasonic I got to replace it has worked like a charm. Within 5 minutes of opening the box, I had a stable connection to my network and was downloading from Netflix & YouTube. It has all the features I need, and more! While both players had beautiful pictures, LG is NOT worth the hassle.
