My old Toshiba dvd was fine for my 190 pound 31″ glass tube tv with an s-video input. But my 5-yr-old 6.1 surround receiver has only one coax digital audio input. And my new tv is another coax audio source! Now my hd tv feeds into that single coax input and my new Magnovox upcnvt dvd connects to the tv through an hdmi input. With an sd dvd in the drive, the video hits the tv with 1080p and the audio goes right through to the 6.1, dolby digital ex and all. Add to that the RCA sat rcvr feeding into an optical audio and an s-vid input upconverting to comp vid on the (Onkyo) surround rcvr and I’ve got “awfully close to” hd everything … ON THE CHEAP!

I recently bought this Magnavox DVD player because of the price and because it’s upscaling. I know some people complained that it was actually made by Funai. That’s the way business is now days. Many companies make things for other companies. The point is this DVD player has a terrific picture using the HDMI cable. What a difference from older non-upscaling players I have. The picture does rival HD picture. For the price, it’s a steal! I got it for $26 and recommend it highly. If someone actually got a damaged or broken player, I can see their frustration… but this is one terrific player… about the cost of 1 (one) Blu-Ray DVD! BUY IT NOW!
