I recently purchased this adapter to transfer accounts from my old macbook to a macbook pro. Worked wonderfully and now allows me to use my old FireWire 400 drives without any problem. Transfer speeds are only that of 400, but that’s to be expected. Really great product that kept my legacy drives and target disk mode available on new FireWire 800 hardware.

This is the adaptor needed for connecting newer a MacBook Pro to the older style firewire for connection to another computer or external hard drive. Saves a ton of time over trying to connect with other cable methods or wirelessly. Also avoids some bugs with those other methods. Doesn’t interfere with other cable ports.

I recently upgraded to a newer Macintosh laptop that has a Firewire 800 plug. I’ve been using Firewire 400 devices for six years already. This adapter allowed me to continue using those devices without any problem!

When I bought my MacBook Pro I failed to realize at the time that the firewire port is an 800. I was still producing music on my oldschool G4, but I recently decided it was time to move the studio on to the new book. My M-audio firewire 1418 works better than ever on my MacBook Pro with this adapter and the updated drivers for OS X Intel. I was worried that it would not receive power through the bus, but it works flawlessly. The best part is the flexible connector, which I didn’t see with some of the other options. This was the perfect solution; I highly recommend it to anybody else that needs to use a firewire 400 device on their MacBook Pro (although I haven’t tried anything else yet).
